| The Indian Hill Railway was built by Rob Bennett as an indoor, 16mm~ft narrow gauge, exhibition layout to demonstrate live steam. This demo was originally to have been called Kurseong Bazaar - based on the real 'Toy Train' which still runs up to Darjeeling in India, and which is now a World Heritage Site. In 2003 Rob sold-on to John Sowerby who now takes it to many shows; indeed it is an extremely popular crowd puller. John has also instigated some changes and the footprint for the bigger version seen here is 24.5' x 12.5' (7.46m x 3.81m).
Here's what Rob has to say about it: "Harvey (Watkins) and myself drew up the plan for this layout... he to promote his engines and I my coaches... and Maureen (Harvey's wife) her figures. With Maureen taken ill Harvey could not help and Denis Jones came to the rescue, helping out considerably and making the team up again. I am really pleased John has taken it up to the standard it is today, it's something I would have liked to have done." These images were taken at the East Surrey 16mm All Day Steam-up of 3rd March 2007.
